Since 1954
Founded in 1954 by Ben Cheney of Cheney Lumber Company in Tacoma, the Seattle Cheney Studs are one of the most tenured amateur baseball organizations in the country.
The “Studs” nickname is derived from Cheney’s company that copyrighted the 8 foot 2×4 for building homes and structures. Cheney’s eight-foot pieces had traditionally been called “shorts.” But Cheney conceived of a new logo that he ultimately stamped on each “stud”, using the silhouette of a Belgian stud horse. Thus was born the Cheney Stud.
The Studs compete in Northwest Baseball over 65 years consecutive years. More than 100 former and active professional baseball players have donned the Seattle Cheney Studs uniform. The Studs participate in tournaments in Kelowna, B.C., Kamloops, B.C. The National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, KS and the Grand Forks International Tournament in British Columbia.
The Seattle Cheney Studs team has been traditionally a mix of current college players with ex-professional players making us an experienced baseball team that competes hard in every game. Thrilling to watch and exciting to follow. ONCE A STUD, ALWAYS A STUD!
